Surah 91 - The Sun (Ash-Shams)

1

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا

By the sun and its brightness،

— Transliteration

2

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا

and the moon as it follows it،

— Transliteration

3

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا

and the day as it unveils it،

— Transliteration

4

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا

and the night as it conceals it

— Transliteration

5

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا

And by heaven and the One Who built it،

— Transliteration

6

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا

and the earth and the One Who spread it

— Transliteration

7

وَنَفْسٍۢ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا

And by the soul and the One Who fashioned it،

— Transliteration

8

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا

then with the knowledge of right and wrong inspired it

— Transliteration

9

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul،

— Transliteration

10

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

and doomed is the one who corrupts it

— Transliteration

11

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ

Thamûd rejected the truth out of arrogance،

— Transliteration

12

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا

when the most wicked of them was roused to kill the she-camel

— Transliteration

13

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَٰهَا

But the messenger of Allah warned them، "Do not disturb Allah\'s camel and her turn to drink"

— Transliteration

14

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا

Still they defied him and slaughtered her So their Lord crushed them for their crime، levelling all to the ground

— Transliteration

15

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا

He has no fear of consequences

— Transliteration
