Surah 15 - The Rocky Tract (Al-Hijr)

1
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
Alif-Lãm-Ra These are the verses of the Book; the clear Quran
— Transliteration
2
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ
The day will come when the disbelievers will certainly wish they had submitted to Allah
— Transliteration
3
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
So let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by false hope، for they will soon know
— Transliteration
4
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ
We have never destroyed a society without a destined term
— Transliteration
5
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ
No people can advance their doom، nor can they delay it
— Transliteration
6
وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌۭ
They say، "O you to whom the Reminder is revealed You must be insane
— Transliteration
7
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
Why do you not bring us the angels، if what you say is true?"
— Transliteration
8
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًۭا مُّنظَرِينَ
We do not send the angels down except for a just cause، and then the end of the disbelievers will not be delayed
— Transliteration
9
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
It is certainly We Who have revealed the Reminder، and it is certainly We Who will preserve it
— Transliteration
10
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
Indeed، We sent messengers before you O Prophet among the groups of early peoples،
— Transliteration
11
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
but no messenger ever came to them without being mocked
— Transliteration
12
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
This is how We allow disbelief to steep into the hearts of the wicked
— Transliteration
13
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
They would not believe in this Quran despite the many examples of those destroyed before
— Transliteration
14
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ
And even if We opened for them a gate to heaven، through which they continued to ascend،
— Transliteration
15
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌۭ مَّسْحُورُونَ
still they would say، "Our eyes have truly been dazzled In fact، we must have been bewitched"
— Transliteration
16
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًۭا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ
Indeed، We have placed constellations in the sky، and adorned it for all to see
— Transliteration
17
وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ رَّجِيمٍ
And We protected it from every accursed devil،
— Transliteration
18
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
except the one eavesdropping، who is then pursued by a visible flare
— Transliteration
19
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مَّوْزُونٍۢ
As for the earth، We spread it out and placed upon it firm mountains، and caused everything to grow there in perfect balance
— Transliteration
20
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ
And We made in it means of sustenance for you and others، who you do not provide for
— Transliteration
21
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ
There is not any means of sustenance whose reserves We do not hold، only bringing it forth in precise measure
— Transliteration
22
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ
We send fertilizing winds، and bring down rain from the sky for you to drink It is not you who hold its reserves
— Transliteration
23
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ
Surely it is We Who give life and cause death And We are the Eternal Successor
— Transliteration
24
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ
We certainly know those who have gone before you and those who will come after you
— Transliteration
25
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌۭ
Surely your Lord alone will gather them together for judgment He is truly All-Wise، All-Knowing
— Transliteration
26
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ
Indeed، We created man from sounding clay moulded from black mud
— Transliteration
27
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ
As for the jinn، We created them earlier from smokeless fire
— Transliteration
28
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًۭا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ
Remember، O Prophet when your Lord said to the angels، "I am going to create a human being from sounding clay moulded from black mud
— Transliteration
29
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ
So when I have fashioned him and had a spirit of My Own creation breathed into him، fall down in prostration to him"
— Transliteration
30
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ
So the angels prostrated all together
— Transliteration
31
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
but not Iblis، who refused to prostrate with the others
— Transliteration
32
قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
Allah asked، "O Iblis What is the matter with you that you did not join others in prostration?"
— Transliteration
33
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ
He replied، "It is not for me to prostrate to a human You created from sounding clay moulded from black mud"
— Transliteration
34
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌۭ
Allah commanded، "Then get out of Paradise، for you are truly cursed
— Transliteration
35
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
And surely upon you is condemnation until the Day of Judgment"
— Transliteration
36
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
Satan appealed، "My Lord Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection"
— Transliteration
37
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
Allah said، "You will be delayed
— Transliteration
38
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
until the appointed Day"
— Transliteration
39
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Satan responded، "My Lord For allowing me to stray I will surely tempt them on earth and mislead them all together،
— Transliteration
40
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
except Your chosen servants among them"
— Transliteration
41
قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ
Allah said، "This is the Way، binding on Me:
— Transliteration
42
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ
you will certainly have no authority over My servants، except the deviant who follow you،
— Transliteration
43
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
and surely Hell is their destined place، all together
— Transliteration
44
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍۢ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌۭ مَّقْسُومٌ
It has seven gates، to each a group of them is designated"
— Transliteration
45
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍ
Indeed، the righteous will be amid Gardens and springs
— Transliteration
46
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ
It will be said to them، "Enter in peace and security"
— Transliteration
47
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ
We will remove whatever bitterness they had in their hearts In a friendly manner، they will be on thrones، facing one another
— Transliteration
48
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌۭ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ
No fatigue will touch them there، nor will they ever be asked to leave
— Transliteration
49
۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Inform My servants O Prophet that I am truly the All-Forgiving، Most Merciful،
— Transliteration
50
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ
and that My torment is indeed the most painful
— Transliteration
51
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
And inform them O Prophet about Abraham\'s guests
— Transliteration
52
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًۭا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ
who entered upon him and greeted him with، "Peace" He later said، "Surely we are afraid of you"
— Transliteration
53
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ
They reassured him، "Do not be afraid Surely we give you good news of a knowledgeable son"
— Transliteration
54
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ
He wondered، "Do you give me good news despite my old age? What unlikely news"
— Transliteration
55
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ
They responded، "We give you good news in all truth، so do not be one of those who despair"
— Transliteration
56
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
He exclaimed، "Who would despair of the mercy of their Lord except the misguided?"
— Transliteration
57
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
He then added، "What is your mission، O messenger-angels?"
— Transliteration
58
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ
They replied، "We have actually been sent to a wicked people
— Transliteration
59
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
As for the family of Lot، we will certainly deliver them all،
— Transliteration
60
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ
except his wife We have determined that she will be one of the doomed"
— Transliteration
61
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
So when the messengers came to the family of Lot،
— Transliteration
62
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّنكَرُونَ
he said، "You are surely an unfamiliar people"
— Transliteration
63
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
They responded، "We have come to you with that torment which they have doubted
— Transliteration
64
وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ
We come to you with the truth، and we are certainly truthful
— Transliteration
65
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌۭ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ
So travel with your family in the dark of night، and follow closely behind them Do not let any of you look back، and go where you are commanded"
— Transliteration
66
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌۭ مُّصْبِحِينَ
We revealed to him this decree: "Those sinners will be uprooted in the morning"
— Transliteration
67
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
And there came the men of the city، rejoicing
— Transliteration
68
قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ
Lot pleaded، "Indeed، these are my guests، so do not embarrass me
— Transliteration
69
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ
Fear Allah and do not humiliate me"
— Transliteration
70
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
They responded، "Have we not forbidden you from protecting anyone?"
— Transliteration
71
قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ
He said، "O my people Here are my daughters so marry them if you wish to do so"
— Transliteration
72
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
By your life O Prophet، they certainly wandered blindly، intoxicated by lust
— Transliteration
73
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ
So the mighty blast overtook them at sunrise
— Transliteration
74
فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
And We turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah upside down and rained upon them stones of baked clay
— Transliteration
75
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ
Surely in this are signs for those who contemplate
— Transliteration
76
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍۢ مُّقِيمٍ
Their ruins still lie along a known route
— Transliteration
77
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Surely in this is a sign for those who believe
— Transliteration
78
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ
And the residents of the Forest were truly wrongdoers،
— Transliteration
79
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
so We inflicted punishment upon them The ruins of both nations still lie on a well-known road
— Transliteration
80
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
Indeed، the residents of the Stone Valley also denied the messengers
— Transliteration
81
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
We gave them Our signs، but they turned away from them
— Transliteration
82
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ
They carved their homes in the mountains، feeling secure
— Transliteration
83
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ
But the mighty blast overtook them in the morning،
— Transliteration
84
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
and all they achieved was of no help to them
— Transliteration
85
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ
We have not created the heavens and the earth and everything in between except for a purpose And the Hour is certain to come، so forgive graciously
— Transliteration
86
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
Surely your Lord is the Master Creator، All-Knowing
— Transliteration
87
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ
We have certainly granted you the seven often-repeated verses and the great Quran
— Transliteration
88
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Do not let your eyes crave the fleeting pleasures We have provided for some of the disbelievers، nor grieve for them And be gracious to the believers
— Transliteration
89
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
And say، "I am truly sent with a clear warning"
— Transliteration
90
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ
a warning similar to what We sent to those who divided the Scriptures،
— Transliteration
91
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ
who now accept parts of the Quran، rejecting others
— Transliteration
92
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
So by your Lord We will certainly question them all
— Transliteration
93
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
about what they used to do
— Transliteration
94
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
So proclaim what you have been commanded، and turn away from the polytheists
— Transliteration
95
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ
Surely We will be sufficient for you against the mockers،
— Transliteration
96
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
who set up other gods with Allah They will soon come to know
— Transliteration
97
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ
We certainly know that your heart is truly distressed by what they say
— Transliteration
98
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ
So glorify the praises of your Lord and be one of those who always pray،
— Transliteration
99
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ
and worship your Lord until the inevitable comes your way
— Transliteration
