Surah 54 - The Moon (Al-Qamar)

1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
The Hour has drawn near and the moon was split in two
— Transliteration
2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌۭ مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ
Yet، whenever they see a sign، they turn away، saying، "Same old magic"
— Transliteration
3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍۢ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ
They rejected the truth and followed their own desiresand every matter will be settled
— Transliteration
4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
even though the stories of destroyed nations that have already come to them are a sufficient deterrent
— Transliteration
5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَٰلِغَةٌۭ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
This Quran is profound in wisdom، but warnings are of no benefit to them
— Transliteration
6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍۢ نُّكُرٍ
So turn away from them O Prophet And wait for the Day when the caller
— Transliteration
7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌۭ مُّنتَشِرٌۭ
With eyes downcast، they will come forth from the graves as if they were swarming locusts،
— Transliteration
8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌۭ
rushing towards the caller The disbelievers will cry، "This is a difficult Day"
— Transliteration
9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌۭ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
Before them، the people of Noah denied the truth and rejected Our servant، calling him insane And he was intimidated
— Transliteration
10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ
So he cried out to his Lord، "I am helpless، so help me"
— Transliteration
11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍۢ مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ
So We opened the gates of the sky with pouring rain،
— Transliteration
12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًۭا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍۢ قَدْ قُدِرَ
and caused the earth to burst with springs، so the waters met for a fate already set
— Transliteration
13
وَحَمَلْنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍۢ وَدُسُرٍۢ
We carried him on that Ark made of planks and nails،
— Transliteration
14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءًۭ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
sailing under Our watchful Eyesa fair punishment on behalf of the one they denied
— Transliteration
15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَٰهَآ ءَايَةًۭ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
We certainly left this as a sign So is there anyone who will be mindful?
— Transliteration
16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
Then how dreadful were My punishment and warnings
— Transliteration
17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember So is there anyone who will be mindful?
— Transliteration
18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌۭ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
\'Ȃd also rejected the truth Then how dreadful were My punishment and warnings
— Transliteration
19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا صَرْصَرًۭا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍۢ مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ
Indeed، We sent against them a furious wind، on a day of unrelenting misery،
— Transliteration
20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍۢ مُّنقَعِرٍۢ
that snatched people up، leaving them like trunks of uprooted palm trees
— Transliteration
21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
Then how dreadful were My punishment and warnings
— Transliteration
22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember So is there anyone who will be mindful?
— Transliteration
23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Thamûd rejected the warnings as well،
— Transliteration
24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًۭا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًۭا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍ
arguing، "How can we follow one average human being from among us? We would then truly be misguided and insane
— Transliteration
25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌۭ
Has the revelation been sent down only to him out of all of us? In fact، he is a boastful liar"
— Transliteration
26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًۭا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
It was revealed to salih، "They will soon know who the boastful liar is
— Transliteration
27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةًۭ لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
We are sending the she-camel as a test for them So watch them closely، and have patience
— Transliteration
28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍۢ مُّحْتَضَرٌۭ
And tell them that the drinking water must be divided between them and her، each taking a turn to drink every other day"
— Transliteration
29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
But they roused a companion of theirs، so he dared to kill her
— Transliteration
30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
Then how dreadful were My punishment and warnings
— Transliteration
31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
Indeed، We sent against them only one mighty blast، leaving them like the twigs of fence-builders
— Transliteration
32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember So is there anyone who will be mindful?
— Transliteration
33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
The people of Lot also rejected the warnings
— Transliteration
34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍۢ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٍۢ
We unleashed upon them a storm of stones As for the believers of Lot\'s family، We delivered them before dawn
— Transliteration
35
نِّعْمَةًۭ مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
as a blessing from Us This is how We reward whoever gives thanks
— Transliteration
36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
He had already warned them of Our crushing blow but they disputed the warnings
— Transliteration
37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
And they even demanded his angel-guests from him، so We blinded their eyes And they were told، "Taste then My punishment and warnings"
— Transliteration
38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌۭ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ
And indeed، by the early morning they were overwhelmed by an unrelenting torment
— Transliteration
39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
Again they were told، "Taste now My punishment and warnings"
— Transliteration
40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
And We have certainly made the Quran easy to remember So is there anyone who will be mindful?
— Transliteration
41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
And indeed، the warnings also came to the people of Pharaoh
— Transliteration
42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
But they rejected all of Our signs، so We seized them with the crushing grip of the Almighty، Most Powerful
— Transliteration
43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌۭ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
Now، are you Meccan disbelievers superior to those destroyed peoples? Or have you been granted immunity from punishment in divine Books?
— Transliteration
44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌۭ مُّنتَصِرٌۭ
Or do they say، "We are all a united front، bound to prevail"?
— Transliteration
45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
Soon their united front will be defeated and forced to flee
— Transliteration
46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
Better yet، the Hour is their appointed timeand the Hour will be most catastrophic and most bitter
— Transliteration
47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍۢ
Indeed، the wicked are entrenched in misguidance، and are bound for blazes
— Transliteration
48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
On the Day they will be dragged into the Fire on their faces، they will be told، "Taste the touch of Hell"
— Transliteration
49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٍۢ
Indeed، We have created everything، perfectly preordained
— Transliteration
50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌۭ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
Our command done in the blink of an eye
— Transliteration
51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
We have already destroyed the likes of you So will any of you be mindful?
— Transliteration
52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍۢ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
Everything they have done is listed in their records
— Transliteration
53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍۢ وَكَبِيرٍۢ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
Every matter، small and large، is written precisely
— Transliteration
54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَنَهَرٍۢ
Indeed، the righteous will be amid Gardens and rivers،
— Transliteration
55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
at the Seat of Honour in the presence of the Most Powerful Sovereign
— Transliteration
