Surah 88 - The Overwhelming (Al-Ghashiyah)

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَٰشِيَةِ
Has the news of the Overwhelming Event reached you O Prophet?
— Transliteration
2
وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ
On that Day some faces will be downcast،
— Transliteration
3
عَامِلَةٌۭ نَّاصِبَةٌۭ
totally overburdened، exhausted،
— Transliteration
4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةًۭ
burning in a scorching Fire،
— Transliteration
5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ
left to drink from a scalding spring
— Transliteration
6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍۢ
They will have no food except a foul، thorny shrub،
— Transliteration
7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍۢ
neither nourishing nor satisfying hunger
— Transliteration
8
وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ
On that Day other faces will be glowing with bliss،
— Transliteration
9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ
fully pleased with their striving،
— Transliteration
10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ
in an elevated Garden،
— Transliteration
11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةًۭ
where no idle talk will be heard
— Transliteration
12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ
In it will be a running spring،
— Transliteration
13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ
along with thrones raised high،
— Transliteration
14
وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ
and cups set at hand،
— Transliteration
15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ
and fine cushions lined up،
— Transliteration
16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
and splendid carpets spread out
— Transliteration
17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
Do they not ever reflect on camelshow they were masterfully created;
— Transliteration
18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
and the skyhow it was raised high;
— Transliteration
19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
and the mountainshow they were firmly set up;
— Transliteration
20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
and the earthhow it was levelled out?
— Transliteration
21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ
So، continue to remind all، O Prophet، for your duty is only to remind
— Transliteration
22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
You are not there to compel them to believe
— Transliteration
23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
But whoever turns away، persisting in disbelief،
— Transliteration
24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
then Allah will inflict upon them the major punishment
— Transliteration
25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
Surely to Us is their return،
— Transliteration
26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
then surely with Us is their reckoning
— Transliteration
