Surah 72 - The Jinn (Al-Jinn)

1

قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًۭا

Say، O Prophet، "It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened to the Quran، and said to their fellow jinn: \'Indeed، we have heard a wondrous recitation

— Transliteration

2

يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًۭا

It leads to Right Guidance so we believed in it، and we will never associate anyone with our Lord in worship

— Transliteration

3

وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَٰحِبَةًۭ وَلَا وَلَدًۭا

Now، we believe that our LordExalted is His Majestyhas neither taken a mate nor offspring،

— Transliteration

4

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًۭا

and that the foolish of us used to utter outrageous falsehoods about Allah

— Transliteration

5

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا

We certainly thought that humans and jinn would never speak lies about Allah

— Transliteration

6

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًۭا

And some men used to seek refuge with some jinnso they increased each other in wickedness

— Transliteration

7

وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًۭا

And those humans thought، just like you jinn، that Allah would not resurrect anyone for judgment

— Transliteration

8

وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًۭا شَدِيدًۭا وَشُهُبًۭا

Earlier we tried to reach heaven for news، only to find it filled with stern guards and shooting stars

— Transliteration

9

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْءَانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًۭا رَّصَدًۭا

We used to take up positions there for eavesdropping، but whoever dares eavesdrop now will find a flare lying in wait for them

— Transliteration

10

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًۭا

Now، we have no clue whether evil is intended for those on earth، or their Lord intends for them what is right

— Transliteration

11

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًۭا

Among us are those who are righteous and those who are less so We have been of different factions

— Transliteration

12

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًۭا

Now، we truly know that we cannot frustrate Allah on earth، nor can we escape from Him into heaven

— Transliteration

13

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًۭا وَلَا رَهَقًۭا

When we heard the guidance of the Quran، we readily believed in it For whoever believes in their Lord will have no fear of being denied a reward or wronged

— Transliteration

14

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًۭا

And among us are those who have submitted to Allah and those who are deviant So as for those who submitted، it is they who have attained Right Guidance

— Transliteration

15

وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًۭا

And as for the deviant، they will be fuel for Hell\'"

— Transliteration

16

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًۭا

Had the deniers followed the Right Way، We would have certainly granted them abundant rain to drink

— Transliteration

17

لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًۭا صَعَدًۭا

as a test for them And whoever turns away from the remembrance of their Lord will be admitted by Him into an overwhelming punishment

— Transliteration

18

وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًۭا

The places of worship are only for Allah، so do not invoke anyone besides Him

— Transliteration

19

وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًۭا

Yet when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him alone، the pagans almost swarmed over him

— Transliteration

20

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًۭا

Say، O Prophet، "I call only upon my Lord، associating none with Him in worship"

— Transliteration

21

قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّۭا وَلَا رَشَدًۭا

Say، "It is not in my power to harm or benefit you"

— Transliteration

22

قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌۭ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا

Say، "No one can protect me from Allah if I were to disobey Him، nor can I find any refuge other than Him

— Transliteration

23

إِلَّا بَلَٰغًۭا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَٰلَٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا

My duty is only to convey the truth from Allah and deliver His messages" And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger will certainly be in the Fire of Hell، to stay there for ever and ever

— Transliteration

24

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًۭا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًۭا

Only when they see what they have been threatened with will they know who is weaker in helpers and inferior in manpower

— Transliteration

25

قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌۭ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا

Say، "I do not know if what you are promised is near or my Lord has set a distant time for it

— Transliteration

26

عَٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا

He is the Knower of the unseen، disclosing none of it to anyone،

— Transliteration

27

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍۢ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًۭا

except messengers of His choice Then He appoints angel-guards before and behind them

— Transliteration

28

لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَٰلَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا

to ensure that the messengers fully deliver the messages of their Lordthough He already knows all about them، and keeps account of everything"

— Transliteration
