Surah 56 - The Inevitable (Al-Waqi'ah)
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
When the Inevitable Event takes place،
— Transliteration
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
then no one can deny it has come
— Transliteration
خَافِضَةٌۭ رَّافِعَةٌ
It will debase some and elevate others
— Transliteration
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّۭا
When the earth will be violently shaken،
— Transliteration
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّۭا
and the mountains will be crushed to pieces،
— Transliteration
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءًۭ مُّنۢبَثًّۭا
becoming scattered particles of dust،
— Transliteration
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا ثَلَٰثَةًۭ
you will all be divided into three groups:
— Transliteration
فَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
the people of the right، how blessed will they be;
— Transliteration
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
the people of the left، how miserable will they be;
— Transliteration
وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ
and the foremost in faith will be the foremost in Paradise
— Transliteration
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
They are the ones nearest to Allah،
— Transliteration
فِى جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
in the Gardens of Bliss
— Transliteration
ثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
They will be a multitude from earlier generations
— Transliteration
وَقَلِيلٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
and a few from later generations
— Transliteration
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مَّوْضُونَةٍۢ
All will be on jewelled thrones،
— Transliteration
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
reclining face to face
— Transliteration
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌۭ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
They will be waited on by eternal youths
— Transliteration
بِأَكْوَابٍۢ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍۢ مِّن مَّعِينٍۢ
with cups، pitchers، and a drink of pure wine from a flowing stream،
— Transliteration
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
that will cause them neither headache nor intoxication
— Transliteration
وَفَٰكِهَةٍۢ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
They will also be served any fruit they choose
— Transliteration
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍۢ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
and meat from any bird they desire
— Transliteration
وَحُورٌ عِينٌۭ
And they will have maidens with gorgeous eyes،
— Transliteration
كَأَمْثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
like pristine pearls،
— Transliteration
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
all as a reward for what they used to do
— Transliteration
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
There they will never hear any idle or sinful talk
— Transliteration
إِلَّا قِيلًۭا سَلَٰمًۭا سَلَٰمًۭا
only good and virtuous speech
— Transliteration
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
And the people of the righthow blessed will they be
— Transliteration
فِى سِدْرٍۢ مَّخْضُودٍۢ
They will be amid thornless lote trees،
— Transliteration
وَطَلْحٍۢ مَّنضُودٍۢ
clusters of bananas،
— Transliteration
وَظِلٍّۢ مَّمْدُودٍۢ
extended shade،
— Transliteration
وَمَآءٍۢ مَّسْكُوبٍۢ
flowing water،
— Transliteration
وَفَٰكِهَةٍۢ كَثِيرَةٍۢ
abundant fruit
— Transliteration
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍۢ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍۢ
never out of season nor forbidden
— Transliteration
وَفُرُشٍۢ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
and elevated furnishings
— Transliteration
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءًۭ
Indeed، We will have perfectly created their mates،
— Transliteration
فَجَعَلْنَٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
making them virgins،
— Transliteration
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًۭا
loving and of equal age،
— Transliteration
لِّأَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
for the people of the right،
— Transliteration
ثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
who will be a multitude from earlier generations
— Transliteration
وَثُلَّةٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
and a multitude from later generations
— Transliteration
وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
And the people of the lefthow miserable will they be
— Transliteration
فِى سَمُومٍۢ وَحَمِيمٍۢ
They will be in scorching heat and boiling water،
— Transliteration
وَظِلٍّۢ مِّن يَحْمُومٍۢ
in the shade of black smoke،
— Transliteration
لَّا بَارِدٍۢ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
neither cool nor refreshing
— Transliteration
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
Indeed، before this torment they were spoiled by luxury،
— Transliteration
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
and persisted in the worst of sin
— Transliteration
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
They used to ask mockingly، "When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones، will we really be resurrected?
— Transliteration
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
And our forefathers as well?"
— Transliteration
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْءَاخِرِينَ
Say، O Prophet، "Most certainly، earlier and later generations
— Transliteration
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوْمٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ
will surely be gathered together for the appointed Day
— Transliteration
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
Then you، O misguided deniers،
— Transliteration
لَءَاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍۢ مِّن زَقُّومٍۢ
will certainly eat from the fruit of the trees of Zaqqûm،
— Transliteration
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
filling up your bellies with it
— Transliteration
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
Then on top of that you will drink boiling water
— Transliteration
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
and you will drink it like thirsty camels do"
— Transliteration
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
This will be their accommodation on the Day of Judgment
— Transliteration
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
It is We Who created you Will you not then believe in resurrection?
— Transliteration
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
Have you considered what you ejaculate?
— Transliteration
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ
Is it you who create a child out of it، or is it We Who do so?
— Transliteration
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
We have ordained death for all of you، and We cannot be prevented
— Transliteration
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
from transforming and recreating you in forms unknown to you
— Transliteration
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
You already know how you were first created Will you not then be mindful?
— Transliteration
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
Have you considered what you sow?
— Transliteration
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
Is it you who cause it to grow، or is it We Who do so?
— Transliteration
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَٰهُ حُطَٰمًۭا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
If We willed، We could simply reduce this harvest to chaff، leaving you to lament،
— Transliteration
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
"We have truly suffered a great loss
— Transliteration
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
In fact، we have been deprived of our livelihood"
— Transliteration
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
Have you considered the water you drink?
— Transliteration
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
Is it you who bring it down from the clouds، or is it We Who do so?
— Transliteration
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَٰهُ أُجَاجًۭا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
If We willed، We could make it salty Will you not then give thanks?
— Transliteration
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
Have you considered the fire you kindle?
— Transliteration
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
Is it you who produce its trees، or is it We Who do so?
— Transliteration
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَٰهَا تَذْكِرَةًۭ وَمَتَٰعًۭا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
We have made it as a reminder of the Hellfire and a provision for the travellers
— Transliteration
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So glorify the Name of your Lord، the Greatest
— Transliteration
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
So I do swear by the positions of the stars
— Transliteration
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌۭ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
and this، if only you knew، is indeed a great oath
— Transliteration
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ
that this is truly a noble Quran،
— Transliteration
فِى كِتَٰبٍۢ مَّكْنُونٍۢ
in a well-preserved Record،
— Transliteration
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
touched by none except the purified angels
— Transliteration
تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
It is a revelation from the Lord of all worlds
— Transliteration
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
How can you then take this message lightly،
— Transliteration
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
and repay Allah for your provisions with denial?
— Transliteration
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
Why then are you helpless when the soul of a dying person reaches their throat،
— Transliteration
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍۢ تَنظُرُونَ
while you are looking on?
— Transliteration
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
And We are nearer to such a person than you، but you cannot see
— Transliteration
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
Now، if you are not subject to Our Will as you claim،
— Transliteration
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ
bring that soul back، if what you say is true
— Transliteration
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
So، if the deceased is one of those brought near to Us،
— Transliteration
فَرَوْحٌۭ وَرَيْحَانٌۭ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍۢ
then such a person will have serenity، fragrance، and a Garden of Bliss
— Transliteration
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
And if the deceased is one of the people of the right،
— Transliteration
فَسَلَٰمٌۭ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
then they will be told، "Greetings to you from the people of the right"
— Transliteration
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
But if such person is one of the misguided deniers،
— Transliteration
فَنُزُلٌۭ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ
then their accommodation will be boiling water to drink
— Transliteration
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
and burning in Hellfire
— Transliteration
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
Indeed، this is the absolute truth
— Transliteration
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
So glorify the Name of your Lord، the Greatest
— Transliteration
